8 steps back.

We haven't gotten my mom's results yet.

I've been feeling pretty good about myself today. So much so that I decided to weigh myself.

238.

I've gained 8 pounds! This is crazy. I've been starving. Staying at 1200-1400 calories a day. Sure I haven't been working out, but that's no reason to GAIN 8 POUNDS!

The only thing I can think of is that I weighed in the middle of the day (with food in my stomach) instead of in the morning like I normally do. But did my morning oatmeal and about 24 oz of water REALLY weigh 8 pounds?

I've been on 16,934 diets in my life, so why am I so upset about this gain?

I might shut down my blog or at least stop blogging for a while. Perhaps I'm all talk and no action.

I hope everyone loses lots of weight while I'm gone!

  1. Honestly, weighing in the middle of the day is almost certainly the cause of the gain. You gain so much fake weight throughout the day. It could also be sodium from the night before, that time of the month, an inaccurate scale, or tons of other things.

I hope you don't give up. Seriously, please, don't give up. I just recently graduated school, and I'm working on losing weight now. I wish more than anything I'd stuck through with my college diets and lost the weight already. Doing it now will help you so much when you do graduate and need to job hunt down the line.

Honestly, you're young, you've got access to a cheap or free gym (depending on how it works at your school), and you've got more free time than you'll have once you get a full time job. Stay committed to a new healthy life. You CAN do this.

  2. Middle of the day weight is always higher... and there is always a tough week right after you start. I worked my butt off the second week of my diet and only lost a pound. It's annoying and depressing but push through it and the weight will start coming off again.

  3. There is no giving up here! You can do this babe.. just quit weighing in during the middle of the day!

Track your food, figure out if you were missing calories, or worse.. coming in under.. and monitor your water and sodium intake.

We can figure out what the problem is and fix it. :)

  4. Yeah, what they said. Don't weigh in the middle of the day. My weight swings wildly through the day. Try to weigh in the morning before breakfast of don't weigh that day. Don't stop blogging!

  5. Do not give up. My weight swings around 5 pounds per day.
You should weigh at the same time of day with the same amount of clothes.
DON'T QUIT!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!
Stress can make your body hang on to weight and water in prep for an emergency. When things calm down with your mom, you'll see that you'll be back on track.
    You can do this.
Stress, water, the time of day you weighed, clothing, salt intake, time of the month....all these could be factors. Don't let that scale win.

  6. Don't go away!!! It's so easy to just give up when you don't have people (us blog followers) to hold you accountable.

Also, are you sure you are eating enough? 1200 calories is not a lot. Your body could be in starvation mode. I'm 5'8" and 260 pounds, and I shoot for 1800 calories/day (at my doctor's recommendation). I lost four pounds this week without doing any exercise (I love to exercise but am limited by my tendinitis, schedule, and baby). Also, call me crazy, but it seems like you have had quite a bit of stress in your life lately. Stress really can make you gain weight.
